You can get locked in using that one.I never shut the door on nice days.Illegal in Massachusetts now.OK in Maine.Basswood makes a nice seat.Makes a nice garden tool shed, drives neighbors nuts though.

If the one we used when I was a kid had been that nice, we never would have got one inside the house! I love it.
Good Luck and God Bless.

Looking good, our's at the homeplace is still used by some when we have a big crowd. Anyone know what the cresant shaped hole in the door signifies?

Pretty neat and the bottle opener for when you go in to use the throne is a nice touch. What is the black plastic pail by the throne used for?

Luna, the ancient crescent shaped figure, was a universal symbol for womankind. A moon, sawed into a privy door, served as the 'Ladies Room' sign of early innkeeping days. Sol, a sunburst pattern, was cut into the men's room side of the outhouse. These symbols were necessary because in Colonial times only a fraction of our population could read or write.

As time passed by and frontiers were pushed further westward, the gentlemen's restrooms fell into disrepair and eventually were abandoned altogether. Accommodations for ladies were better maintained and this is why the moon symbol remains on many outhouse doors today. Its original meaning, however, was lost to the general population sometime in the mid 1800's.

I had one on my place here and they do make pretty good tool sheds except when they become mini-homes for wasps. After a while I"d get too tired playing dodge"em just trying to get my tools to actually use them. A massive storm finally ripped it off it"s concrete base/throne and onto its roof. I dragged it into a machine shed to keep it out of the weather. It was twisted pretty good so I think it"s done. It was sided and painted the same as the house so someone had some taste.

By the way, good job on yours, looks nice, rustic, and well built.

Thank you for the complements. I buitl it all other than I did have help from a plumber friend on the plumbing and my Father helped with some of the stuff like hanging the door. I learned that mudding drywall is not my cup of tea. Including the stairs to the loft I think I had about $1200 in it. The wood came off of a barn that stood were my new barn is now.
The black thing nest to the toilet is actually a old? miniture barrel with a garbage bag in it for trash. I was going to put a old medicine cabinet in it but ran out of time and had to go with new.
It came in really handy at the party I had this past weekend.
You all take care now
Charlie
