O/T Kia Sephia

we just got a 2000 kia and the keys were missing my father knew the car and knew it ran when parked so after some paper work and keys from dealer we got it started and it knocks. This thing only has a little over 51,000 miles and I was wondering if some of my friends on here had any knowledge of the problems with these type of cars. crank? flywheel? torque converter? trans? It sounds like a rod slapping the block but runs smooth I have heard a 350 chevy sound like this with a broken crank just thought I would get some opinions on a possible gas saver

If it has a flex plate it may be broken. Hal
PS: I would drain the engine oil into a clean container and see if any metal particles are in the oil.

Most of those require a timing belt at 60,000 miles. A timing belt usually breaks, not slip a cog. Remote possiblity it slipped a cog and a valve is contacting a piston. Greg

I tried to look at the flex plate today but I didn't see any signs of a crack. had my father spin it over and the noise seemed to be in the oil pan so we will pull it next

My daughter found out with her 2002 Hyundai that the Korean manufacturers' 10 year/100,000 mile drivetrain warranty applies to the original purchaser only [daughter was the second owner]. That's the company's big loophole that lets them off the hook.

I just found out that they are offering a 75,000 mile warranty so I think we will finish the paper work and let them have a look at it

i think i would check to make sure the oil pan didnt get dented somehow, that could make a knocking noise
