For the past few years we have been planting this 15 acre patch in 40 inch rows so we can harvest it with the corn pickers, put it in the crib and then shell it out. With all the wet weather this spring we just finally got it planted today. We wont harvest it until all of the other farm work is done and it doesnt shell in the pickers as bad if it is a little wetter. We moldboard plowed it last sunday. Disked it a few times and ran over it with a cultimulcher on friday. Also have some pics of putting in some oats for a neighbor. Better late than never right?

well you ain't the only one. almost a month ago when i was done planting corn i offered to plant 10 acres for a neighbor but he said "naw .... is gonna do it" ok but i didn't have the planter away yet. so last weekend he asked me to plant it and i finally got around to it yesterday. more of a hastle then i wanted because i could have been out cutting hay. but i assume he is just going to chop it anyway. sorry i got a little off topic :(
it is always fun to plant with the small planters! i loved planting for my dad with the JD 70diesel and an International cyclo planter!
have a good one!

With the genetically modified corn, it probably doesn't matter, but we used to always have trouble with corn borers in June corn.........

What kind of corn sheller do you use? I custom shelled a lot of corn with John Deere model 6 powered by a IH 560D. The sheller had a Cook cylinder made by Cook Machine Shop in Washington, Illinois. He also hand-built his own shellers starting in the early '60s. I would love to see some pictures when you shell out the crib. Armand
