OT/ATV mileage

Anyone ever figured out what the gas mileage is on an ATV 4x4 400 CC. Would it be around 45 mpg
in the best of conditions?

I figure at most maybe 30 mpg. An ATV would get a lot less mileage than a similar powered morotcycle.

I think you are both on the high side, never measured it but I have a 500 that just cruising the gravel road is probably less than 20mpg. ATVs are not geared for mileage.

I'd say your probably pretty close. My 425 Polaris doesn't get much better than my truck. ATV's, especially 4WD models won't impress you with their mpg's.

I measured my Polaris 500 automatic twice cruzing down gravel roads. Avraged between 40-50 mpg. It had just been serviced and went about 75 miles round trip each time.

I"ve put 9000 miles on my Honda 500 4x4 and it consistently gets 25 mpg. I really doubt you"ll ever see 45 even if it"s a smaller machine.

NcNE,
Pretty hard to get 40-50 with an automatic 500cc machine. Old Honda Nighthawk 500 ( road bike) was hard pressed to get 45 on paved roads cruising.

I used to have a 250 yamaha timberwolf 2X4, 2 gallons in it I could run around the farm checking cows, ride"n fences, the normal stuff for two weeks or better. Now I have a 450 Honda 4X4 Forman ES. Two gallons gets me a little over a week. Never figured the MPG, but the little 250 got alot better.

Go"n road speed, the milege sucks on the 450, I can run down the road and the gas tank will be empty before the cooler is, maybe I have a bigger cooler now too, I don"t know.

The old man drives around on a Bombardier Outlander 400. I drive a Ford Ranger, hard. They use about the same... 15-20 mpg. Pretty pathetic for both, really. We used to have Yahmaha YFM225's (Moto 4). They had a small tank and would run all week on a tank.
You can't get mileage from a CVT transmission that insists on running at 4 grand all the time just to move.
I've said many times before, and will many times yet... it's just a f***ing old SkiDoo, nothing more, nothing less, in every way. It's a sorry excuse of a bike.

I never really checked my Polaris but I mostly use it for light work in low gear. I might get 20Mpg if I am lucky. 4 wheelers are just toys, small tractors do more work and get better MPG.
Zero emmisions and 3500/5000 on the tach prove that 4wheelers arent made for good mileage.

If 4-wheelers are just toys and small tractors are for work, I'll invite you to come visit us sometime and help move about 400 head of cows from pasture to pasture with your small tractor. :)

I used a 135.00 horse.Still have my saddle, may have to get a new horse.Horse ate a lot of grass, a little grain and hay.
