Hi all,
There is a old cast iron JD seat pan on eBay right now, the current bid is at $1,474.00! I can't understand why people would pay that much for it, it must be very hard to find! Check it out.

eBay: John Deere Antique Iron Seat

I'm not saying it isn't authentic since I'm not too familiar with iron seats, but a family member gave me a seat for Christmas just like that only it was painted green and yellow and had a sticker that said "Made in China".

I'm surprised as well that people would bid up that high with no confrimation on authenticity.

Happens all the time I guess.

My father-in-law has two authentic seats that look just like that, and came off of equipment that was going to be junked 30 years ago. I would have never thought it would be worth anything near that, especially on ebay!

That's one of those flea market scam seats, john deere wasn't even making seats in 1847.

Acid wash can to wonders for the pantia. JD never made any such cat. I have seen hug seat collections and the $$$$ was no problem and none in the collection. Retracking the bid would be the way to go for me. Last one I saw like that was painted green for just a few bucks from China.

Chinese fake. Such a seat was never ever made or used by Mother Deere.
Either the auction is a joke, scam or a couple of dopes are biding.

Yea, but if you sat on that seat for any length of time, you'd have a J and D permanently imprinted on your a$$! Dave

I feel like a fool now, I have been selling these seats for $25.

Here is the listing on my page to show that it is the exact same seat.

it's VERY RARE indeed, I would have to check but I think I only have 10 of them.

Another wierd thing about this auction is that the two "BIG" bidders have 1 and 0 for feedback and have not been members for very long.

Seems like a little something is going on.

Just realized something else, the high bidder has only bid on items from that seller. That is really fishy.

"John Deere Iron Seat That Is Like Nothing I Have Ever Seen Before. This Iron Seat Is In Amazing Condition. This Measures Across Side To Side 18.0" And Front To Back 13.0" . The Detail Is Beautiful, This Is Truly A Work Of Art! The Seat Features A Deer At The Top, A "J" On The Left And A "D" On The Right. The Center Has A Date Of 1847. At Least I Think This Is The Date. I dont Have Any Information On This. My Father Recently Passed Away And I Found This Hanging On The Wall In His Work Area Of The Barn. I will Try To Answer Any Questions You May Have. Shipping Will Be FedEx Ground. Local Pick In Minneapolis Is Free."

Very clever add language. They never claim anything. They lead you to believe, but always follow it up with I don't know. Surely a scam, they know exactly what they are doing, but pretend to be ignorant and let buyers believe it is rare and old.

I sent them a message with a link to the ones just like it for $25 and told them if they let someone pay that much for it believing that it is really old and unique that they should be ashamed.

Lets see if it still sells after they have been informed that it is not RARE or OLD.

I knew I should have moved that old horse drawn mower to a safer location. It was on a dead end road but some collector still made off with the seat.

I got one like it at an auction for $25 or $30. I painted it JD green and "JD" and deer JD yellow. Bolted it on top of a green painted milk can/ with a JD decal, put wheels under the can, and used the hand grinder to cut a door (hinged) on the can. It's my favorite stool with drill storage underneath. Only way I'd like it better is if it was Prairie Gold with "MM".

sat on one like that today the boss got a deal on 5 of them for 50 bucks, welded them to drill pipe and the pipe to old wheels, got a good seat, this guy doesnt know its a cheap china or mexico knock off
