What goes around comes around

Well, the ol neighbor that offered to let me "use" a few of his peices( each of which I sent back better than I recieved which is my standard) and also decided to charge me for his "help", wants to borrow some things of mine, expensive stuff. Do I "t!t for tat" or do things the way they should be done? Argh! I said go ahead and use it, you break it you fix it, only a certain person can operate it it, and send it back full of fuel. That is about 10% of what he would pay for renting or custon hire. I just dont have it in me to be a tight Arse jerk.

here are two sayings that i try to live by:
1. treat others the way i want to be treated.
2. the butt i want to kick today, i may want to kiss tomorrow.

i would have charged him for the use of your equiptment, simmilar to or more than what it cost for you to borow (rent) his equiptment.

You gotta try to keep the status quo even, flush and perfectly level within one another.

If he starts to slide off into basically owning your stuff, you NEEDDDD to make it known through higher tones of voice that he's going too far.

I would do the same thing you did. But it would be a very cold day somewhere usually very warm before I borrowed anything from him again. And after this go round don't lend him anything.

The best thing I have found when someone wants to borrow equipment (especially vehicles or tractors) is that the operator goes with it. No one I have talked to has argued with that policy. There can be a select few (VERY few) that you might let borrow it lock stock and barrel, but to me, the operator-goes-with-it policy works the best.

I do the same thing JDknut is talkn about... no equipment leaves this land with out me that is just the way it goes.... and that is what i would tell whoever wants to borrow your equipment.....

My brother tells the people that want to borrow things, that it is mine and will have to check with me. I tell the people that want to borrow from me that it is my brothers and will have to check with him. 8)

As a former banker, I would never lend money to friends or relatives.

Quickest way to loose your job, your friends, and your in-laws.

You started it all, being a borrower. Now you will have to live him tearing up all your stuff, or say you are sorry you borrowed, and that you wont do it again. Count on losing this freind either way. Tom

My solution is to borrow from the rich relatives, and lend to the poor ones, and that way they all leave you alone!
