I"ve searched the archives and have a question.

I am looking at a farmall h with high altitude pistons. I live at 1000 ft elevation. Will I have to do anything special to this tractor or use any special formulation of gasoline?

Thanks for an aswer

So called "high altitude" pistons are just a little higher compression ratio to compensate for less dense air at high altitude. They actually will give a little more power at lower altitudes also. Many thousands of them have been used for years without problems on regular grade gas.

The vast majority of Farmall Hs have already had the high compression pistons installed. 50 or so years ago there might have been a problem because the octane rating of the gasoline was much lower than today, but the lowest octane rating available today is still high enough that you will not have any problems.

Wally,
1000 ft is not high altitude. I would bet that in 50+ yrs any H has been overhauled at least once. It was common practice to overhaul with bigger sleeves/higher compression pistons, cheaper to hop up what you have than to buy a new tractor. High altitude sets were most common in Col., Mon., Wyo., any of the "high plains" states.
