WNYGSEA is scrapping equipment on the grounds

For those of you familiar with the Western New York Gas and Steam Engine club in Alexander, NY......F.Y.I.!!

They are scrapping antique equipment that is stored at the grounds. If you have anything sitting out there, you better go check it. So far I have lost an antique IH side delivery rake, 6' tandem disc, and a 2-bottom plow. They don't care what they are scrapping. My equipment was even marked with my name and phone number in case the club needed to contact me about it. No one ever called.

It appears that the club directors have supposedly formed a committee that is deciding what to scrap, save, or keep for the club. Their only way of communicating this information to club members is by word of mouth.

Something is very wrong with this club right now seeing as they are supposed to be supporting the preservation of antique equipment, but instead they are detroying it for scrap money.

This is wrong!! I urge anyone that is involved with, or knows someone who is involved with this club to take action!

Call the Club's president and tell him how you feel about scrapping antique equipment.

Here is the link to the contact page for the club. Contact them and tell them how you feel about scrapping this antique equipment that cannot be replaced:

IF you had some sort of documentation or pictures, you might be obligated to have a lawsuit put against them.

I agree if you have pictures, documentation, or some proof of ownership, a lawsuit against them is a possibility. What they're doing is not only morally wrong but potentially illegal. If you were told your stuff could be stored there they can't just go and crush it for scrap money. At the very least you should get the money they made from it.

Nope, you left a good disk (for example) and they now owe you one. I wouldnt just take the money from it

I finally made it out to their show last year. Sorry to hear of your equipment being scrapped. If you didnt donate it to them, but just had it stored there for display and/or use , seems to me they went a little too far , but thats between you and them . In general , its too bad an old iron association would scrap anything unless it was really junk but scrap is high and maybe they want to clean up (in more ways than one !!)Good luck and thank you for posting this info - you may help someone out that hasnt been informed of this and save them from the same loss of equipment as you have suffered.

I know when some people donate stuff, and then when the donatee decides they want to do something else with it the donator thinks they can have it back or that what actually happens to to it is up to them.

We had that issue come up when someone donated an junker H to the FFA to restore, now that it is restored they want to sell it so he thinks he should get it back since it was his to begin with.

If they're just selling it for scrape they should at least give the former owner first right of refusal or at least a chance to buy at scrape price.

I suggest you read the orginal post again. It appears that the equipment WAS NOT the clubs so they have NO right to mess with it.

what are these people thinking? It sounds to me like the board members of the club are pretty much doing what they want. I heard that the police were called on a work group that came on a week night and did improvements/maintenance to the grounds buildings etc. because some copper wire or something turned up missing. I think I was told that the cops visited each of the people house investigating. It sounds like the police should visit the board members houses or this so called scrap commitee and see how much of this "scrap" made it to their back yards. What a joke!!

To top it off the club seems to be letting people camp there as long as they please at no cost to the camper. I think this may be against the town codes setup for the land where the club resides not to mention I also think the campers are stealing electricity from the club which our dues pays for. I go out there every once in a while just to clear my mind and the club grounds are really starting to look like a junk yard. If that old equipment was mine I would be calling the police for sure.
