Friend of mine has bought a 720 D. The gears don't match what the Quadant numbers say. I know the gears could be changed by the dealers. We had a neighbor that had theirs changed shortly after it was new. I read about this change within the last year some where but can't remember where. Anybody know? Thanks.Gene

It probably the quadrant was changed, does it have the fast trans now? Im not sure why anyone would change that stuff over.

Yes there was a change after 720 serial # 7216900 involving the 5TH GEAr ONLY. These tractors used the R20068R shift quadrant, and were STANDARD EQUIPMENT after 7216900.

You had the **OPTION** OF CONVERTING AN OLDER TRACTOR PRIOR TO 7216900 to the special 8 mph fifth gear and/or a special combo of 4 3/4 mph fourth and 12 1/4 mph sixth gear.

The special 4th and 6th gear was used with both quadrants listed and THROUGHOUT ALL 720/730 tractors.

The special 5th gear shaft was used with the R20068R shift quadrant... I suspect your tractor HAS NOT received this quadrant when they did the 5th gear changeover.

I would guess the gears were changed to get better speeds for a picker or pull type combine. I doubt they changed the quadrant because of cost.
