I said all the buildings would be alright.

Well I was wrong.

I had to empty this bin today cause they said the water is coming up another 4 ft.

If the water comes up 3ft. theis bin will be surrounded.

Got done about 3:00 and my brother inlaw called and said bring trailers to Iowa City. We cleared out his antique furniture repair business.

It is now in my shop on trailers.

IaGary, that's great planning to save your crop. It's looking like most of us farmers will be taking crop insurance money this year. If you can avoid it, that's awesome!

sure the insurance will be great for yall...

but what will it do to the economy?

It is already high becuz of ethanol? which makes feed prices go higher which makes beef and milk prices go higher. what else will one flood do to the whole country?

What do you mean insurance will be great?

I will probably harvest about 140 bu to the acre average. Best avg. is 195 in 2004.

I am insured for 130 bu. So I will not collect a dime.

Even if some floods I get paid on an average not on the zero acres.

Don't make me mad tonite.

I ain't got enough energy to fight it.

Gary

cuz dan said that most farmers will be taking crop insurance which would be good for most farmers cuz then they have no overhead for fuel...

Took this picture looking north off the top of the hill in the pasture.

About 15 acres of mine under so far in this field. My land ends at the tree line.

First picture was looking west.

jlmtractor please stop and THINK ( or have some one do it for you ) before posting on this subject again !
How are they going to save fuel if the crops are already planted ?
Taking crop insurance isn't good for the farmers ( at least the honest ones ) .
I(t means you DIDN'T"T get your potential income but you do get some help to stay in business .
Since you obviously don't know any thing about what your talking about why not keet quiet ?

Well would you reach up and open the valve over you before it gets here.

You can have all you want.

Gary

Wait a minute there! Don't try to blame ethanol for any of the economies problems! Look at the whole picture and you will see it has helped the economy. How you ask? More money in the farmers pocket means we can spend more which is good for the economy. Two sides to every story but no one wants to share ALL the good sides to ethanol. And apparently everyone wants more than their share of the American farmers pocket. Well not everyone but ya'll know what I mean.

I think you need to learn a little more about farm ecconomics.

Insurance is not great. It is a last ditch effort to keep from going under. Sorta like saying it doesn't matter if you get fired, there are lots of jobs avaialable & there are minimum wage laws so you will be just fine.....

Quite the slap in the face you just gave to IaGary...... I'm sure you didn't mean it, but that would sure hurt people's feelings!

Ethanol is consuming 10-11% of our corn crop. (It uses 20%, but quite a bit of that is returned to livestock feed as distiller's dried grains - high-protien feed, so it is not 'used' for ethanol....)

We grow about 30% more corn than we need in the USA. Most of the time, it is not in much demand around the world, so we about give it away for free......

Just so happens out USA$ has collapsed, at the same time several Asian countries have a huge supply of money - their ecconomy is good & their currency is worth a lot these days - & are willing to pay for better feed & food.

So, they are buying up our cheap grain - to them our grain looks cheap, because of the currency exchange rates.

Ethanol doesn't have too much to do with grain prices. I know it is a popular 'media' target, but in reality the facts don't support that.

World demand & world currency exchange rates and strikes in Argentina because the new president down there is stoopid has alot more to do with grain prices.

$10 corn & $20 beans is a train wreck all by itself, we all will have problems, farmers most of all.

Saying insurance is great and blaming ethanol for grain prices is just plain messed up.

I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it, just repeating what you hear on the news.

If you knew what you were saying, you would be terribly embarassed to see how terribly insulting you are being with your comments.

Obviously, you don't know ecconomics and real world farming very well.

Would you like to to understand some of this better, where can we start? Love to help you understand it, if you are open to that?

Just curious Paul, where are you at in Minnesota? Your writing style reminds me a little bit of a high school classmate.

Are you anyplace close to Marshall/Cottonwood? Just one of those shot in the dark sort of things. My name is Larry and I"m now in Georgia.

Then throw in the works the livestock farmers, the prices for those commodities haven't gone up in line with the grain prices. I have hogs and beef cattle and us small livestock farmers will go first. Been farming over 40 years and this is going to be one for the record book.

Crop insurance doesn't pay squat 99% of the time. Even on our worst years our corn was still too good to qualify for insurance so we don't get it any more. If it gets that bad we wouldn't be able to feed the girls anyway.

Some of our hay is insured (winterkill etc...), but that doesn't help much either. Crop Insurance is BUNK

jlmtractor I hope you can your foot out of your mouth so you can walk out of this forum.
Ask the person who's home burned to the ground how much money they made. Ask the person who's car was totaled how much money they made. But don't do it behind an impersonal IP address, do it in person then you might get the reply you deserve. Too many people hide behind the IP and say hurtful things to others, either due to igrnorance or the will to be mean. This man's whole livilyhood is at risk, due to mother nature, not to mention his home, equipment etc., due to no fault of his own and you want to insult him about insurance. Goodbye and good riddance to you and the others like you.
