Iowa Floods

Checked the news on Iowa a little while ago. 83 of Iowa's 99 counties have been declared a disaster area. This is almost the entire state.

The water is rising at 2 inches per hour. The Cedar River is expected to crest at 33 feet. '93 flood was 19+ ft. 400 blocks of Cedar Rapids are under water.

They only have one water well for the entire city. There is no power in downtown Cedar Rapids. More rain is predicted for Sunday.

They are already predicting a jump in prices due to massive crop losses, especially corn.

Communities downstream are preparing for the water coming their way.

There are a couple farms off Hwy 13 close to river, low round. Went by there yesterday before they closed road. They had tractors, combines etc, all parked up on high ground by the road. But seen a couple of Case tractors water up to top of engine . Hard to imagine just how much water there is .

Logistics !! Niece is to be getting married this weekend . Roads closed everywhere just announced closing I 380 . Ever try to talk a 21 yr old to postpone her wedding !!! lol

Yes I am geeting a good look at it.
I manage the Cub Cadet Dealership in Cedar Rapids.
Fotunatly we are dry yet but one of our competitors is completly under water-only roof of shop showing.
Its amazing how this impacts people,in a positive way-neighbor helping neighbor-and all the volunteers offering to sandbag as well as surrounding community residents showing up to help out.
The pictures on the news dont do this justice.
The Red Cross folks are comparing this to hurricane Katrina-except without the large loss of life
