replacement radio

Radio's going out in the Case IH 7120. I've been looking on the internet but I can't find any parts sites that have replacement radios. I sure I can get one from the dealership but listening to music is not worth what I'm sure they would charge. I'd like one with a weatherband but don't need the cassette or CD player. Any of you guys know of a site or store that sells replacement radios? Has anyone tried putting a car style one in a tractor? Thanks for the help.

I have gone to radio shack before and bought radios and put them in tractors. The last one I did I went to the dealer and bought one of those cab radios that has a complete unit with the speakers. The biggest thing is just running the wires and mounting.

Panisonic makes one the one I saw was in an 98 International 4700 truck maybe look on their website I am sure most radio shops can order you one but that may be pricey also

Yes you can get a cheaper radio, but how old is your current radio? Automotive radios are designed for 30 min constant operation. The radios that the Case IH dealer sells from ASA / Jensen Heavy Duty are high quality and designed for the application. They will sustain 1 million button pushes and are designed for 8 hours constant operation. They will last like your original radio did. When you look at the auto radio for $150, you will put in 2 of the $150 radios to last the same amount of time as the heavy duty radio at $200-250. Here is their site.

Forgot one thing. This will be a direct plug in to your factory harness also. You won't have to splice wires as you would with an automotive radio.

WE have 9 4700's - the radios are so "plain jane" that our friendly light finger boys leave them alone and take the $800 two-way ones instead which nobody can use as they are tuned to our frequency only. Ah, the joy of doing business in Big D.

Colekicker,

Can't argue with what you say about the auto radios only designed to run for 1/2 hour, never heard that, is that actually true?

If it is true, I won't tell the radio in the shop because then it will quit working. It came out of an 84 Chevrolet Celebrity and has been running 40 hours a week since 1993. Sometimes more if it is just left on.

I would have to agree that you should just buy the HD one like your current radio. The car radios just can't take the heat and dust, nor are they made to. We put one in a Case Magnum when we did a repaint the other year and the radio was shot in less than a year. This was one of the radios that is mounted in the roof.

Thanks for the advice guys. Looks like no cheap way out of this one. After more looking I did find a site that had tractor radios radio engineering has them but they don't list prices. I'll check on the other site listed here. I was kinda suprised I couldn't find anything on ebay
