Ford 8N Distributor

Bought a 1949 Ford 8n last fall. Didnt run it much, just cut a little grass. This Spring, went to plow with it and it started back firing and stalling out. Decided to do a tune up - new distributor cap, rotar, points, and wires. After this it would not start at all. Took off distributor cap and the rotar was broken in five parts. Took the Distributor off today and there are two hariline cracks in the housing around the bottom of the shaft. Could this be the problem.

Thanks

You'll have better luck with the 8N experts on the Ford 2N, 9N, 8N Forum. Could be the thrust plate on the cam is worn or the cam gear retaining nut is loose and it's allowing the cam to move fore and aft and pufhing your distributor shaft upward.

I think you are talking side mount distributor and his year should be front mount. Totally different.
