Watched the houses float away many times yesterday. What can any body add who is near by??

I live 12 mi. west of that lake (Lake Delton). We had 10 1/2" of rain in less than 48 hrs. That lake is surrounded by expensive condos and 2nd homes which is near Wisconsin Dells; don"t think any poor people were hurt by this, except some house cleaning, mowing and maintenance jobs will disappear for awhile. Low areas of Reedsburg, Rock Springs and Baraboo will have major flooding...lots of people who can"t afford that will be hurt badly.

The owners of a 3-year old home that was washed away said that they asked about flood insurance, and they were told that they would never need it where they were.
I am not sure that this is a regular flood, anyway. The part that washed away was a fairly narrow strip of land between a man-made 245-acre lake [about 10 feet deep] and a river. The lake drained in a matter of two hours. The dam that formed the lake was not damaged in any way, it was some distance away. The water managed to make its own channel when the level of water got too high.

Reminds me of a story in which a family had just purchased a plot of land and had the hole dug out for the foundation and basement. So, the next day they went back out to the jobsite only to find the place slightly underwater and the hole filled full of water and total junk. They then sold it to a different farmer.

Another really bad flood has hit the Kickapoo Valley, where I live in SW Wis. My area would be between Lake Delton and the Mississippi River. I'm not a news reporter, but I do feel for the folks who again have to go through the experience.
It is rare to hear the Kickapoo River roar through this valley, but that's what I've heard the last two days. Mark SW Wis.

I'm glad we were not up there going for a duck ride when that bank gave way what a ride that would have been .
