water prevention from washout

I have a spot that is the collection point for water run off. it has blown a big crater from the runoff.
whats the best way to fill it back in and prevent future washouts? as it is a step down area from where the field slightly slopes down then drops to a driveway.
I was thinking of filling it back in with clay then dumping a truckload or two of 4 inch rock so it would not wash out the clay on its way through the area.
any better ideas? cannot put a drain in tho as there is nowhere to run it too. I just want to slow it down some so it does not washout the dirt.
thanks

Called head-cutting around 'here'; we would either do just as you suggest, except use larger rock or..........put in a vertical 'stand pipe' ........with elbow on bottom....... of sufficient size to carry the run off.

Big rock then smaller ones on top. BTDT and thats how they do things around road banks etc. I've hauled 1000s of tons of rock that was then put down so as to stop water from cutting the ground away

thanks for the info guys. I have some cement chunks I can throw in after I refill it then will see how much more I need before I put the 4 inch rock on. all I need now is for it to dry out some to do it.
guess I will see where it redirects too afterward or do you think it will just slowly drain thru?
thanks again.

well my opinion i would tile it with corrugated tile if possible. but yeah i would put in the chunks of concrete and fill in around that with dirt then just mix the dirt and gravel together or just kinda spread it around. or you could spread the gravel and cover it in dirt. but basically just put layers of dirt and gravel in the hole so there is to much gravel there to take dirt when the water sifts through.

after i do that i would leave quite a bit of top soil there and sod it and put silt fence at the bottom for a little while until everything compacts and settles outs.

Better check with local authorities before you put concrete chunks in there. Around here we cannot dump used concrete in washouts or waterways.
