7' Woods Bushog 8N Ford Tractor

Will a 7 foot woods bushog be too big for a Ford 8N tractor? Also what would be a fair price for a used 7" woods bushog

Strongly suspect you'll be very disappointed if you have anything deeper than the front lawn to cut!

Nothing but trouble, way too big. 5' all you should be considering. A 7' needs at least 55 PTO HP and you have 25PTO HP. Tractor might not even lift it and you have cat 1 hitch and that 7' machine should have cat 2 hitch.

Too much weight, steering will be unreliable.
Too wide, not enough HP.
Transmission driven pto requires an over running pto clutch.
Time to find a 50HP tractor with live pto, power hydraulic brakes, diff lock, cat II three point hitch, remote hydraulics, power steering and a real drawbar.
Not to worry such tractors exist for the same money as the over priced and under featured little old fords.

I use a 5 foot bush hog behind a larger, 45 HP Deere.

You won't be able to move 3 inches in tall grass before that Ford throws a rod.

Most people use a 4' on a 8n some a 5' . if they are just using to mow grass. I have a 1715 N/H that is 27 HP . & I use a 5' but I mow grass not brush , The last 8n made had 26 HP .the earler model's had less HP. My tractor weight about the same as a 8n & I don't think the 8n would do very good with a 7' on it.

As mentioned by others, thats probably a bit much for an 8n. 5' is probably the correct size. I know a lot of people that comfortably run a 5' mower behind a tractors that have 23 pto hp.

I run a 6' mower behind my Case DC (40hp), under almost any conditions. I also run that same mower behind a John Deere B (27hp) without any issues, just need to go slower through the heavy stuff.

As for going price, it all depends on condition. I don't think $500-$1000 would be unresonable for an older machine. I have seen several 5' mowers sell for under $150 so far this year.

Make sure you put an over-running clutch on the tractor. If you were to use a trailer style mower (not connected to a 3pt hitch drawbar) any steering issues would disappear. Good luck.

for a 7'er you need something like a 706 ,3020 or a D-17 thats a lot of weight for a tonka sized tractor like a 8N

My Super C(27HP) has a 6 foot Woods mower under it. I gotta keep the grass pretty short or it just lugs it so bad it tries to die in 1st gear. Really wish there was a creeper on it.

My Farmall H pulls a 7 foot JD 709 pull type easily.About the same hp.Now I don"t use it for cutting down hood high weeds.I mow grass 1 1/2 foot tall in first and 1 foot tall in second.I like it,cuts outside the rear tires. Can leave them dished out for plow day.Mark

Had a Farmall H and NO WAY would it have handled a 7' mower. Under right conditions a 5' is good for a Farnall H or Johnd B (Same horsepower 27-28) but many a time the 5' would kill a 52 PtO HP Ford 4000. And a 55 PTO HP John Deere where i worked would hardley handle the 7' they had for it.
