ford tractor

I am new to classic tractors and I have alot to learn....that said I would like to find an old ford like my grandfather used to have....this is all I remember of it....it had a narrow front end (I think it's called a trike with two small wheels close to one another), had a large propane tank mounted in front of the steering wheel....I know this is very vague but that's all I remember about it.....do y'all have any ideas on what kind of tractor this might be? thanks Chris

to be honest it was gray and rust! I really don't remember if it was red or blue.....I can tell you it had large rear tires and he ran a 7-10' bush hog with it but I don't know the HP on it.....as a kid (even early high school) thinking it was really tall (the hood was higher than me)....I hope this helps.

Like RustyFarmall says... (Ford)red and grey or blue and grey? Red and grey would make it a 900, 901, or (less likely) 700, 701, or early 6000. Blue and grey would be a 4-cylinder 4000 row crop or (again, less common) 2000 r.c. or 6000.
Maybe try posting on the Ford forum.. I know at least one guy has a 901 LP that he's parting out... some of the pics to the left in the tractor photo gallery might help you identify exactly what you're looking for.

Sounds like a 6000 LP... not very common, but still a few around. That would be too much brush hog for one of the smaller models I mentioned. The 7/900 and 7/901 and 2/4000 row crops all had 28" rear wheels, while the 6000's had either 34" or 38" rears.

I have a 971 (901 Series with the Select-O-Speed transmission) LPG that I'm parting out. My tractor has the wide front axle but the 901's were available with the single front wheel, narrow dual front wheels and the wide dual front axles. The fuel tank is a large propane tank that sticks up through the hood.

Yup, you are who I was thinking of, just couldn't remember your handle. :) Sounds like he's looking for an early 6000LP anyway...
