Well, we got to take the Honda Hawk out for a drive yesterday, was kinda breezy, had alot of fun and the bike ran pretty good, (for sitting for 10+years) Id say it ran real good!

So why didya park it? Last evening my wife informed me we only had 2 eggs left for breakfast. About 15 minutes before the grocery closed I went there on my Virago. On the way home right as I neared a gas station it started sputtering, then died and the fuel light was on. I coasted up to a gas pump. Then I remembered I'd siphoned gas from it to mow the lawn. (I could have used the reserve if I needed to) Congratualtions on your Hawk!

I had started driving truck OTR, and never had much time to do anything with it. I know what ya mean on those last minute trips to town 5 minutes before the store closes,,, LOL! I had to make that run last night too.

It was supposed to rain here last night but I chanced it and took my Harley out. It was actually quite nice and not many bugs out. Nothing like having a bike and cheap fill ups!

i got my 73 honda scrambler running a few years ago and put 6000 miles on it that summer ,,and i hate to say a moped. but i put about 75 miles a week on the moped just making short trips and it gets 75 mpg.i bet a 100 lb man could get 100mpg on it. i put a milk crate on the back, holds a good amount of food . the thing i like about the moped is, you dont have to have insurance or license plate on it , but you do have to have a drivers license ,,in ky..my freind has harley and i never hear the end of it from him. a buddy and i fixed up a 78 yamaha 750 special, but i dont really like to ride it. lucas

And me, like a fool, listened to my dear wife, when she said i was too old to ride a motorcycle, so i sold it! Now, 3 months shy of my 84th. birthday, i wish i had it back, with the cost of gasoline and all!
No, I'm not an old creaking fuddy-duddy, setting in his rocker, and dreaming about the "Olden days"! I go out every tuesday nite, to play my banjo in an ongoing jam session, and work every day fixing lawn mowers and related stuff!
Every time i see those "young Whippersnappers" riding past on their crotch rockets, i get the urge to get another one! But, the Mrs. would have me committed if i did that! She sez i could get hurt or killed, but what the heck--ya gotta go someway!

I was at the Kawasaki shop today looking at a KLR650 dual sport. It would be an easier decision if I didn't already have a KLX300 and a Vulcan 1500 Drifter sitting in the shed. I really can't justify another bike without getting rid of one of the others. I would ride a dual sport way more than the other two combined but I'm kind of attached to the big Vulcan. That thing is a really smooth ride but I live down two miles of gravel and she don't like anything but paved road.

I got my 1978 Yamaha 750 special running. I hadn't rode in a while. A few years ago a 17 year old girl looked down to change the CD while I was stopped to make a left hand turn. She came up the tail pipe of my 700 Nighthawk. Not fun flying through the air and landing on the pavement. It took a year to recover. Unfortunately, with the price of gas, my wife is now driving the Geo Metro and I am going back to the 750. It's kind of funny, I used to only drive Chevy 4x4s, now my wife and I are driving three bangers. We are what you would call downwardly mobile!!!

I live two miles out on gravel also with a 84 Harley Softail . The motor is built for drag racing so riding to and from the blacktop is interesting . Just have to let the hips loose to follow the bike and try to not control it so much . But there is a BIG difference in a Vulcan's weight and my Softails weight I suspect . My bikes been stripped down to hardly more than a seat with a motor under it . I find the faster I go the more stable it feels - to a point - about 35 to 40 feels good in the real heavy loose gravel . Like riding a dirt bike in the mud . I haven't gotten it out of the barn yet this year , I might do that this weekend if the rain ever stops . ...Randy

35 or 40! Wow! I wouldn't have the nerve to try that. I usually run about 20-25 and get it up into 3rd or 4th gear and just let it chug down the road and let it wander as it may. My bike is pushing 800 lbs. and although I have a nice air ride suspension it just isn't up to the holes and ruts for any faster running than that. I live in farm country and my road is nothing but washboards and washouts.
