Loading tires

My 4610 has plain water in the tires as it really doesn't freeze that hard in central CA where I bought the tractor. However I have taken the tractor to northern Idaho to use there on our property, and it does freeze there! Is there something other than calcium to put in tires to keep them from freezing in 0* weather?I'm looking for something non-corrosive. I've heard mixed comments about using RV type (pink) antifreeze due to it's reaction with rubber.... Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

John

i run calcuim in most of my tractors. as long as you have new tubes in them, and take care of any leaks right away, you shouldnt have a problem. i have been using por 15 rust converter on the inside of the rims when the tire is off for repairs. works great. other options are rim guard, it is a liguid made from beet juice, winshield washer solvent, and the sierra anti-freeze (critter friendly). the other option is to hang extra weights on the rear wheels.

I use windshield wash. Get the stuff that is good to -25. Works good for me in northern MN. It's cheap and non corrosive, not a enviroment proplem if you spring a leak. Only real draw back is that it's not as heavy as calcium but it does help alot with traction anyway.

Use methanol, like in racing engines. Mix 1 part methanol to 4 parts water. This will give you freeze protection to about -20. The water dilutes the methanol so it"s no longer flammable, and it won"t hurt the tires or the rims. This is what we did at the Massey Ferguson dealer I used to work at.
