Its one oclock in the AM thundering lighting and raining to beat the band, and if thats not enough to keep you awake my back is killing me also.. I have been on my M farmall all day and their is not a delicate way to put this it is a fact that the stock seat on this machine sucks big time! I am bouncing my back and keester up and down like a basket ball all day! Does anyone have a good fix for these back busters? If not the torch and welder will come out as I am not going to go through one more day of this crap....

grab the smoke wrench!
new seats with weight-adjustable spring or hydrualic cylinder are cheap & plentiful. you can get armrests & manual/tool holder on back. Your back is too valuable a resource to bum up.

I get the same feeling after a 9 hour shift in the car. The tools on the belt don't let you sit back in the seat like one should, but you don't dare go without any of them. I warm shower helps, but laying flat on the floor seems to do good for me.

kinda makes originality loose some of it's glamour huh??? I've been been eyeing a seat and brainstorming a bracket for the last couple of years.

Good luck.

As for rain,
we haven't had any for 7 weeks. Yesterday, it rained about 3 inches 5 miles away and not a drop hers.

I been slleping like a baby. Building that fence and also trying to get everything else done is wearing me down. My back has been bugging me for months, the other day I wrestled a RR tie into the hole and it was way off. I bear hugged it, kept my back straight as possible, squated and tried to lift it out with using my legs,(it was a 10 foot RR tie), the tie didnt move but my back made the most noise in the woods, hurt bad for a minute or two and I thought I did it in for good this time, my back has actually felt great since then, and that is after setting 16 rr ties in for corners by myself. I think something must have been out of whack all along in my back. I didnt even need any Captain morgan/dr pepper's last night, I had a few, but at least I didnt need them!!!!

Is the spring and shock in good shape? if that is the type you have. Are the bushings tight? Is the seat pan good? Is it adjusted fore and aft to a comfortable position for you? I have a bad back. I have found over the years they sag and it puts more strain on my back. I rebuilt the seat on my '52 H and installed a new padded seat pan and find it quite comfortable. I have always liked this style the best with the fold over back feature, helps in getting on and off. After a while they get loose and want to flop sideways and that can be a problem for the back, always trying to balance your weight to keep a comfortable position in the seat. You need to be able to relaxe and not feel like you are being bucked out all the time....James

I know what you mean.
Back in the 1950's Dad took on more acres as well as we had to take over my Grandfathers two farms because of his heart attact.
My dad and brother did all the plowing and planting and I took my Grandfathers M without power steering and fit the ground to stay a head of the planter and drill. This started early spring and ended around the first of June. Before all the crops were planted I would head to one side of the field with the idea that I would not turn but ram that hard riding M into a tree, turn chicken and head for a tree on the other end. Great power but not the easy ride and steering of our Olivers. Only advise I remember about it was watch the thumbs disking the first time over on plowed ground. When caught they hurt the next day as well. Sometimes longer.

Get a new seat. It's just not worth it to have a sore back for 5 days for $100. Just spend the money and save yourself a couple trips to the chiropracter.

Soulds like you do not have enough spring on the seat for your weight. Have had that same problem with newer style seats and tightning up the springs helped a lot. Would get away from all the bouncing and also make sure it is adjusted for your height and as mentioned not loose that it keeps moving side to side. Our Farmall H had that problem.
