jubilee clutch

I don't know a lot about tractors but I bought an old ford jubilee to give my wife something else to worry about. The tractor seems to run fine but sometimes it sticks in gear and when I let the clutch out it wants to stall without moving an inch. If I let the clutch out real fast it engages, but of course jumps. The fellow that sold me the tractor indicated a new clutch had been installed but he thought it might need adjusted. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Without actually seeing the tractor act up , it sounds like you have a transmission problem..Maybe a sticking or bent shift fork or worse....

Hello,
sounds like you have shift problems. when the tractor stalls out it is from being two gears at once. by jumping the clutch you must be poping one gear out. this is a very bad thing! you could cause big trans problems. I have done alot of ford trans because they lock in two gears and pop a gear tooth. it happens when you try and shift too fast. you might have some trouble with the shift lever or the shift plates. but if you make sure you are out of one gear before you shift to the next gear you will be ok
you should have 3/4 inch of free play in the clutch pedal if not it needs to be adjusted.
Good Luck Ed
