I just recently bought 2 olivers a 88 and a super 88 both gas, and I seen on both of them that oil is leaking out of the exhaust manifold, both of them run good was this common with these oliver or just my bad luck, also would this be a piston ring issue or valve seals?

Sounds like you just got a couple that have been run long and hard. I have Olivers and none of mine do that. And either rings or valve guide can cause that but more likely guide

That is a loaded question. Depending on the age of the 88 the oiling system for the rocker arms may not be the same as for the Super and then the problem at this age of the tractor is getting enough oil to the valves.Have you taken the valve cover off and run it and see how the oil flows. Also look and see where the oil line enters the rocker arm shaft. Me I would do a compression test, maybe even work both of them a day under load and see what happens. Does the thermostat work, does it get into the normal temperature range? You need to do some detective work on your end first.

well on the super the thermostat works and it get to operating tempature ok but after a little while oil comes out of the exhaust port and starts to run down the block its that way on both of them and I have worked them for a little while to see if it would stop but it didnt, so im not sure if the engine needs rebuilt or if the head does. I guess i'll do a compression check and go from there. Thanks for your help
