John Deere Skid Steers

Does anyone out there have any experience with the new John Deere skid steers? I have a Case 1845C thats getting close to 3000 hours. I'm interested in trading it on a new one, but the Case models seem to be priced quite a bit higher than the Deeres, and the local Deere dealer seems to have some incentives to move them right now.

Are the Deere 317/320s any good?

my opinion on a john deere skidsteer would be dont buy them if you run the loader by watching the edge of the bucket then dont buy them becuz they push the seat back farther so you can have more leg room which pushes you back away from the bucket so you there fore cant see the edge of it. but that is just my opinion.

i prefer a bobcat loader over any but it all depends on what you learned to run.

I agree that you need to be able to see the cutting edge with a dirt bucket. Some machines you're almost sitting down inside them like in a tank. The higher the seat height the better. I worked at a place that had a JD and it didn't have the best visibility for looking around yourself either. Also, if it has a cab, the door that flips up is a real pain in the butt. Dave

John Deere skid steers don't have good resale value. I have a 250 series 2, I don't have any problems with seeing the cutting edge. It has a problem with it running up to the red on the temperature gauge in outside temps of about 80 degrees and up, and thats just moving loose dirt and stone. No it's not just my machine have talked to others and the dealership and they "think" they have it worked out. Other then that I like it.

My neighbor has a Deere skidsteer, he has had it for maybe 10 years or so. Very reliable, I have never used it, I would need to learn to use it first. I agree with others that when someone sits in it the seat is down compared to others and it is like sitting in a tank, visability seems not as good as the Case. Deere has the 0% on construction equipment too. Price would make my choice, I could never afford a skidsteer for home use--not practical unless you had a business that needed it.

I have owned a JD 328 for two years and like it. It has cab, heat and air. The 5 cylinder diesel has no cooling problems in the summer with plenty of power. Optioned for the 2 speed ground drive and the best money spent was the hydraulic attatchment disconnect from the cab, $425.00. We have 8 attatchemnts for the skidloader, use the pallet forks the most with holes drilled into the end to move machinery around in and out of a shed. Plenty of guts in the unit. It will pick the 1500 pound round bale from the center top row off the semi trailer.

When we got our case 60xt a few years ago, it actually cost much less than the similar sized units of other brands, particularly deere and bobcat. We usually use case equipment because aside from being reliable and generally simple machines, they almost always cost less, sometimes with better options. With construction being as dead as it is right now, check on the deals you have available and play hard to get because every dealer will be looking to move their machines.
