Electrical Hazard Boots and Hot-Wire Fence

Something's been bugging me for a while. My Red Wing boots are rated for "Electrical Hazard." I guess they're supposed to insulate me from the ground a little better or something. Shouldn't they make the jolt from an electric fence a little less powerful? We use big Gallagher chargers here and man can they throw a shock. Any thoughts?

Boots rated for 120 volts won't hold off 15,000 volts. And once punctured by the high voltage they won't hold off 120 volts either.

And there's capacitive coupling for the pulses of the fence charger, just your feet and the insulation of the boot.

I was gonna say, on a high zoot fencer, just you're own electrical mass is enough to get some juice through your hand on each zap.

That "Electical Hazzard" label on your boots means that when the rug-rats/curtain climbers/youngin's are playin' and happen to plug the laces of your boots into the electrical outlet, the children won't glow in the dark. :>)

I started using Gallagher chargers a few years ago. They are sure a well made powerful fencer. I was using red snapper and they only lasted a year. With the Gallaghers on a calm morning I can hear a snapping short 1000 yards or more from my house. They sure got bite if you get to close!

Maybe they don't have steel toes? I got some really good work boots that have fibre glass toes or something other than steel. They cost a little more than steel toed boots but are super light and really comfortable. I think the name is Coffma or something like that. Same rating as steel toes but are also non conductive or something like that. Dave

Yep. Only thing worse than an electric fence to the family jewels is a shot across the head. Don't know how long I was out.
