I have seen a lot more snakes this year, nothing posionsess, just a few black snakes and stuburn corn snake that could not get the hint that I didn't want him around. Usually I don't even see any traces of them. Anyone else come across more snakes this year?????? Charlie

Last sunday I had to pull a blacksnake out from under my neighbors stairway. First time I went hand to hand with a snake, but I could not let the good lady have another heart attack.

Seen the usual so far, will see more when I start mowing in a few days, though I keep running across the same garter snake by our pond, basking in the sun. They're usually quite ill tempered, though I've been able to pick this guy up without him getting real alarmed and delivering some of that stank substance from its vent, must make him taste awful to predators, I'll set him back down like nothing happened, most of these will rear up and want to fight and all that.

Corn snakes are the most even tempered I've ever seen, pet shops sell em, but I leave em be, unless I find a long one, I'l take a few photos of them, they'll wrap around you and absorb heat on a cool evening, ( I showed up to a friends once with one around my neck :) ). Big time rodent eaters, seems like they migrate a bit too, never understood why people get upset over these kinds of snakes, theyr'e harmless, do more good than not, poisonous ones I can definitely understand no need to explain there after seeing what that venom does to humans.

Had quite a few garter snakes the last few years, then saw hardly any last year. My wife's whacked a couple with the lawn mower so far this year. I've heard they go in cycles.

I keep a .22 revolver loaded with bird shot in my shop.

Lots more around here - my folks have killed 18 rattlers already this year - I've gotten two - and I just have an office job! ha...

Even saw a big old rattler on downtown main in Perryton a couple days ago, but couldn't get turned around to get him...

Usually by now i see one or two gopher snakes on the driveway when going to get the mail but I guess its still to cold for them to come out.

Same number as usual at our place in SW Wis. Had a nice size puff adder (hognose or blow snake are other names, I believe) hanging around right near where I found a very few morel mushrooms a few weeks ago. This snake would actually "strike" at Rose, the golden retriever, but never connected.
In general it seems like there are lots less snakes around here than there used to be, back in the 50's & 60's. The snakes here on our little "farm" are all harmless & we don't kill them. But there are supposed to be rattlesnakes up in the hills & bluffs in this area.

Have not been see'n more snakes but ticks and skeeters are unreal here this year. Guess it's all the rain we have had or something. I have found more ticks this year that I did all the last 3 together.

So far I"ve killed one small Copper Head and seen a couple of garter snakes and a few road kill black snakes and a couple of others too far gone to identify. Just remember it"s usually the ones you don"t see that bite you...because you stop and then run like he11 from the ones you do if your smart.

I haven't even come across one yet. I was really expecting to see a rattler yesterday as it was in the low 80's and all the prairie dog holes being bare. I was sure nervous walking around in the grass as it was fairly tall for out here.

Corn Snakes are called the "Farmers Friend" around
here--they"re the best mousers that you can get !!
