Kawasaki 100 enduro again

A new spark plug solved the last problem and it's running again. It was running great but the revs were high because I have it in low and it was in high before the engine problem( something I fixed while the engine was down.). Now it randomly quits on me, usually at lower rpm's. It will be idling and it will just quit and won't start at first and when it does start again it will run for however long and just quit again. Doesn't matter how hot it is. Makes a bit of a tick like when it didn't have enough oil but it has great power.

Never had a 2 cycle run long enough to ride. Consider yourself lucky. Think they eat plugs. How is the mix? If its 4 cycle, start over.

I'm thinking right now that the mix may be a little lean. It's at about 45:1, normally I would add a bit of oil to bring it down to about 35:1 or lower. Please tell me that's not the problem. The last plug I had lasted over a year.

2 strokes need a good hot plug. They love to foul out fast if you don't run the crap out of them. That said how many more do you want?? I have a KE100 and also a spare rebuilt engine for a KE100

Old please don't do this to me. Everyone tells me to take it easy on this bike so it doesn't overheat and whatever and now you tell me to run the crap out of it. It doesn't help that I'm nervous as he!! that the engine might have something serverly wrong with it again. The recommended plug was a 7 and right now it has a 6 in it. Is that hotter of cooler?

6 is colder then a 7. Sorry I'm an old biker and have run them all. I started my son on a Kaw. KE100 and he could ride it some and then it would mess up. I then jumped on it and ran the crap out of it and all was well for a long time. 2 strokes get there power at high RPM and if you baby them they foul out plugs big time. Oh by the way I have been on bikes since I was 13 and have owned over 40 bikes of all sizes. If you have ever heard of cage riding I have done that and its fun unless you make a mistake. I've done the trick running thing many times and my son still gets mad at me when I jump on his bike and ride it on the back wheel or jump things hes afraid to do. I've been clocked at 145MPH on 2 wheels back when I was a lot younger

I agree with "OLD" , run the crap out of it. There isn't much in a 2 stroke to go wrong. They either run or they don't , there isn't much in between. Air leaks or fuel starvation are the two main problems with them. Run them too lean and they will sieze up or melt alum. piston material over the rings and lose compression and quit. Back in the day I run moto-X and studded ice racing. Hot summer or cold winter , I never had any problems with 2 strokes. It has taken 40 yrs for a 4 stroke to finally ever win a profesional motocross race. Remember the ole 500 Mach III and 750 3 cyl. 2 stroke Kaw's in the '70's?? There wasn't another two stroke or any 4 stroke built that could touch them in acceleration (1/4 mile).

Well I can agree and disagree on that one about the 500/750 machs. In the day I had a Yamamha 350 that in the 1/8 I ate the 500/750 Kaws alive but after I hit 3rd gear they had me but off the line they where dead meat

I put an RD350 in a Cotton MX frame (modified to blazes. With a set of browning sprockets to run 70mph max, it was a joyous handfull. Run the crap out with good injector oil. JimN

Ya the old RD350 was one heck of a fast little bike. Now days I wish I still had the one I had becuase it sure would help on the gas I burn. They did get good MPG

Yep! I bought the first 500cc Mach III in this part of the country in 69. The white tank one. Talk about a rice rocket. I could only ride the back wheel to 75 mph because it wanted to go over backwards. At 140 mph the front wheel was so light I backed off. Yes, 500cc. 60 hp. Weight, a little over 300 lbs. Wheelie king? I can prove it by the scars on my elbows and knees. David....

Yes, keep the revs up.. Never lug a 2-stroke. I had at least a dozen bikes as a teen, folks did not like bikes, so I had to figure out how to repair and keep them running.. Hondas, Hodakas, Kaw's, Yamahas, Suzukis, even a few of the little Italian Harleys.

I have a Yamaha Blaster 4 wheeler 200cc 2 cycle w/ oil injection - bought it new in '88 - rode it a lot - not as much nowadays - few times a summer we take it out for a little ride - still has the original spark plug and starts and runs great

autolite make a great cross reference plug for my son's bike. his race bike requires a "9", so we run an autolite 4062. compare 1.19 to 7.99.

i saw a "purty" RD400 Daytona Special 2 weeks ago- the red on white, air cooled version-
took me back to my high school days

So what do you figure the problem is. I don't really want to run it until I figure out what the clicking is and why it won't stay running. Spark plug?
