Does anyone know of a site to ask about the history of construction equipment makers? Big toy.com has not come up with anything yet. I'm looking for information about an outfit in Milwaukee called Seaman Motors. I know they were active in the 1950's and I'v got a hunch they were swallowed by either FWD or Rex. Any info appreciated. Tom

That company was started by my father, Harry Seaman, Sr. In the late 50's it was sold to American Marietta and combined with another. smaller company, Andwall Mfg from Ixonia, Wis. It was then known as Seaman-Andwall div of Americian Marietta. The Seaman Pulvi-mixer line was subsequently sold to Rex-Chainbelt.
My father left after the sale, to found Seaman Corp, where he developed other rotary mixer models, the Trav-l-mixer and Duo-Stabilizer, along with a compactor (Duo and Tri Pactor)and asphalt distributor. The latter was a result of his purchasing the Gunnison Mfg Co in Baraboo, Wis. The new company was initially known as Seaman-Gunnison Co.

I'd be happy to try to answer what other questions I can.

Harry Seaman (Jr)

I would like to learn more about the tractors. Specifically, what years were they made, what engines were available, etc. I heard that some came with a 427 Continental. Was that a flat head engine? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Patrick

There's a fellow down the road from me that has a Seaman GS7W. His has a large rototiller mounted on it. The Farm Equipment guide says that they were built from 1955 to 1957. There were 3 models that were different only because of the engine used. One used a 4-71 GM diesel. Another used a 427 CID Continental gas and the other used a 451 CID Waukashi gas. The diesel unit weighs 10,430 pounds while the Cont. gas weighs 9384. These were big tractors for their time.
