Due to health problems I had to retire early, and now spend quite a bit of time visiting various antique tractor websites. I and many others frequejntly post links to various threads from one site to another, as well as sometimes suggest someone visit another site to find more info on a particular problem or subject. I have seen some recent posts on different boards that if they posted a link or name of another site on YTMAG to another discussion board their post was deleted. Has YTMAG gotten to the point that another forum can't even be mentioned? I know of at least one person who will no longer do business with YTMAG advertisers because of this apparent policy.

John, I too surf the other tractor sites but lets consider that you and I both own grocery stores. I am selling my products and you are selling yours both at great expense to advertise, building expenses, maintenance, employees and such. I get a good idea and decide to hire someone to walk your aisles letting people know that my products are cheaper and better than yours although that may not be the case. How long are you going to allow my person to walk your aisles? Kim has an investment here that is beyond a lot of the users comprehension since to them the web is free. I believe Kim is doing what most all business people do to protect their investment as well as keep the aisles free from arguments on things not pertaining to her grocery store. Some of the other sites allow all that you mention but that is probably their hobby and this is her bread and butter.

Coldiron, I guess everyone comes from different backgrounds. I am from a small town where if you walk into a hardware store needing something they don't have, not only will they suggest where you may find it, but frequently will even call to verify it for you before you drive across town (4 or 5 blocks). Rather than costing them business, it seems to improve it. Plus I doubt that telling someone they can find more informtion on a particular subject on another site is going to cut into Kim's customer base. Note, I am not talking about sending people to a copmetitior for products, just other forums for information.

This site is going to kill it's self by being so picky and anal ,but when they figure it out it will be to late I am afraid .But why delete the address of other sites that can help the members I thought that was what we are here to do is help each other .

John, hope things work out for you during retirement, but not glad about why it happened - I mean that in a good way.

A few pages back, 2 or 3, someone asked about Red numbers, said couldn't find them in the archives. Well, serial numbers are there and I told him so, but added that if he was looking for model numbers, or some specs that aren't covered here, gave him a site he could go to, and it's still there, I just looked. I've given that site a couple of times, and go there from time to time myself, but this is for things that can't be found here.

Maybe, and perhaps the issue here is that I don't give competition sites here, nor anywhere else. If I did, or anyone else did, I wouldn't blame Kim for deleting them. Would pretty much be like a Deere salesman setting up shop in the IH Case showroom and directing perspective buyers that way. That's the way I see it. It's one thing as a supplier whom doesn't have a product to direct someone to where they can get it, but another to direct someone somewhere else to get the same or like product they sell themselves. Not smart business in my book. Just my 2 cents.

Good luck on the retirement.

Mark

Rudi, Have you tried E-Mailing Kim and asking why? There may be a good reason, and then again she may not be aware that the Cub site is being blocked. Filtering devices are fine, but I can well imagine that like anything else that there are unintended consequences that accompany such devices. It would be nice to know if the filtering is unintentional or by design.

Perhaps the best thing to do is contact Kim and ask, using the FEEDBACK form under the MISCELLANEOUS tab. Best that I can offer.

Paul:

Yup, now that I have been able to find the post again, I can answer..

Been there done that, don't know how many times I have emailed Kim and the staff asking/begging them to allow the link to function. I make absolutely no money from that site at all. It takes hundreds and hundreds of hours just to maintain it, and took 10 times that to do the work to upload the info.... I do it cause I like it and cause I want to help others, sort of a payback to all those wonderful people in this hobby that have helped me get Ellie up and running and allowing me to have as much fun as I do.

I do manage a workaround at times, as long as there is an email link then I can send the the info. However, now she is using the safemail assistant so I cannot send my html/phpbbs version of the welcome wagon text which has all the links.

I think this is taking censorship a bit too darn far.

I understand that this may have become her income generation unit, but... as others have said, forums such as this are supposed to aid its users.

Kim and the staff will only hurt themselves with this new policy. In the real world at least the one I live in - people who are happy with a site WILL AUTOMATICALLY refer other people on other forums to that site. It becomes an option so that a user has choices.

I sure hope that they review this policy.

I am not afraid of spam. I get it by the tons - hundreds and hundreds of spam and crap email by the week, and that is only what makes it through the filters. Very easy to deal with... hold the control key down, highlight all the crap, right click and click on DELETE... poof it is all gone.

I am a big boy, I don't need people to censor my mail.

I know she means well, but this is getting slightly ridiculous..

I can understand the desire to limit competition. Kim has to fund this site somehow, and the advertisers are the ones who really dictate what stays or goes.

I, for one, love this site, checking regularly. Sometimes when I should be out doing something!

Thanks Kim.

Bill

I am not referring to posts that the filters blocked, I am referring to posts that were deleted after they had been posted for a while.

There are a few parts suppliers that would be in direct competion with the parts that are sold here. And then there are a few that have abused their privledges here too. So kim builds in filters to screen them out. Always remember that as users we are guests here and must respect the website owners wishes whether we agree or not.

I agree. I wasn't allowed to post another website as a referral for help as John described. Is this YTMAG policy? Pete
