Maybe some of you have seen this TV ad. I had it sent to me. There's a You Tube video. I laughed until I literally had tears running down both cheeks. The little girl is so serious and happy. ROFLMAO

It could put our industry on its ears. Sadly. A lot of people due to smoking and drinking can't taste their food as it is. They most likely would have no issue with synthetic food if placed in their diet. Remember how mom would sneak something into your food as a kid? The butternut squash just under the mashed potatoes. Further, a lot of people think all farmers are filthy rich and would enjoy sticking it to us so to speak by boycotting traditional food. I'd go further but that would be against a certain policy here. I'll laugh but not too much.

It's what the ELLITES wants you to eat(of course, not them). It's people like AL Gore, Bill Gates, etc. are better than you & they use the excuse climate change.

Maybe they'll think twice when they see the commercial comparing it to growing a tumor. I'm still wiping my nose from laughing so hard. LOL.

ute video. LMAO

As impressive as it may be that you can produce a reasonable facsimile of something as complicated as meat, there are lots of impressive things that can be done but shouldn't be repeated too often. Arthur D. Little really did make a silk purse from a sow's ear. It was the most expensive silk ever made, but it was a lot like real silk.

I disagree with the statement that the cell lines used are like a tumor. I do however agree with the ewe yuck part. It has been a long time since I grew cells in a lab, but I do remember the difference between cancer and normal cells. No one in the lab ever considered eating any of that stuff. It was the pathology department, mind you. You want fake meat, eat a veggy burger.

The video that ewe tube coughs up as a follow on begins with a number of derogatory opinions about meat and cattle farming as science, even claiming to believe in science. Anyone backing up uninformed opinions with the claim that they believe in science either knowingly or unknowingly believes in political science. Actual science is something to be understood, not believed in. There is no need to have blind faith in something that can be experimentally demonstrated. Later in the video, they do say that there is some uncertainty about the supposedly bad aspects of cattle farming, and the ridiculous cost.

You can argue that meat is terrible for the animals it comes from, on account of having been slaughtered. But the rest is pure politics. 'Pure politics', now there's an oxymoron.

From what I've heard, it's pretty much indistinguishable from the real stuff. The reality is that eating meat from animals is a pretty inefficient way to get protein. I'm not running out and buying test tube hamburger just yet, but I don't mind a bit of tofu now and then.
Where you can try it

in a few years there will be ads by lawyers on TV that are suing because of the chemicals in lab so called meat causing health issues. no better way to make meat than an animal eating plants.

And what chemicals are those, TF? Has anyone successfully sued McDonalds over the horrifying contents of their purported hamburgers? Millions of people eat a Big Mac every day, while only a handful of folks have ever tasted lab-grown meat. It will be many decades before the consumption of lab-grown meat approaches that of the real stuff.

X2 So a so called vegetarian by eating meat thats naturally produced (in cattle not lab) from cattle eating grass might be in favor of ya reckon ??????? orrrrrrrrr eat something thats artificially produced in a lab ??? Ya just cant please everybody and my solution is to allow people to eat grass that cattle converted to meat and allow people who dont want to eat it their choice BE TOLERANT, IE let them eat what THEY like IN PEACE. Some people just arent tolerant of those with different choices grrrrrrrrrr Sure Im aware of artificial substances some farmers use also another grrrrrrrrrr When I farmed I ate meat cattle converted from grass and did not use chemicals I was aware of but I cant judge or impose my values on others and expect the same in return

John T Pro let people eat meat or not eat meat and be tolerant of other choices. Sounds fair reasonable and peaceful to me, but it takes all kinds, God Bless them all......

Merry CHRISTmas everyone, meat eaters and vegans alike lol were all Americans and in this together. Its Christmas remember the reason for the season and this wonderful federal holiday yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

" It will be many decades before the consumption of lab-grown meat (EVs) approaches that of the real (IC) stuff".

I'm with ya, John T! People are free to eat whatever they want.

But we're also free to have some good natured fun with them. People poke fun at us and the things we like, they need to be able to take it as well. That applies to any number of subjects, not just this one.

Mark, in a nice calm conversation I disagree that it is efficient nor just like meat nor healthy.

Its fine for those who want it, Im not protesting the product.

But I will disagree with the misleading things those who are promoting it are claiming.

I doubt we can solve the debate here in this type of forum, but if you try to grow a bunch of protein in a moist warm vat of stuff, you are going to have to deal with bad bugs and organisms that would love to grow in that same medium. Just that alone would raise a lot of questions.

Livestock consume a lot of rejected food from human food. Not rejected but culled off of human food. Such as sweet corn silage, sugar beet hulls, lots of canning waste. As well as grasses and stalks and such plant matter that humans cant eat. All of this is incorrectly computed by those who wish to promote their fake products. These are positives for meat, not the negatives those people give to the media uncontested.

Tofu is an honest product at least.

This fake meat is promoted just as fake as the product, in my opinion.

If you wish to consume it thats cool have at it Im good with that.

I will disagree with the misleading promotion surrounding it tho. I think we all should get more informed with real facts.

One brand of the fake meat is actually made in my hometown. So for jobs, taxes, and local economy I should probably be for it. The few I know working there joke about the slop about as much as me which is funny ironic.
