Water pump leaking

The water pump was leaking on my 4cylinder flat head continental engine so I took it off and pulled the pulley off and found this hole. It looks like it belongs there. Can someone please tell me if this is supposed to be there and if so how to keep it from leaking. Thanks, Mark.

That hole looks broken out like a frozen from the inside break. If you can see through it into the impeller area, it is as I describe. Some pumps have weep holes built into the casting some are pretty ugly and rough, some are drilled. If you have a drilled hole going into the bearing hub as well as this rough hole I say it needs repaired/replaced. If the hole goes into the shaft area between the bearings, the pump seal is bad. Rebuilds or Kits are to be found to make it good to go. Jim

Thanks for all replies. Can somebody help me find a vendor for seals and bearings for this pump? Thanks again for your help, Mark

Go to Napa and see if they can get a rebuilt pump. Them kits have been obsolete for years. Can try removing the brgs and seal and go to motion and have them measure them up maybe go that way. Its hardly worth all the trouble when you can buy a rebuilt pump.

Check out the link below.

I thought I'd seen somewhere that they were no longer dealing direct with the public. but the linked website doesn't say that.

Worth a try to call them, anyhow.

You said.. help me find a vendor for seals and bearings for this pump? Okay, can you keep a few less secrets about it? Cubic inches, engine model number, what machine is it in? I see you may have a Cletrac but I do not think they used a Continental.

The only Continental Cletrac used was the F226 6 cylinder. Quite possible someone grafted in a similar 4 cyl as the Lego blocks would have been available.

Correct, I just did one like it last summer. Kit came from eBay and was advertised for a Lincoln welder with the same F something engine number

Find the model on the engine tag, probably begins with an F--- Then search EBay, I just fixed a very similar pump for a continental. Parts were listed for a Lincoln welder engine

Sorry I should have posted a picture of the engine tag. I talked to Landis Zimmerman and he said this is not the original engine it originally came with a Hercules. Cletrac E62
