Monster Crawler

MacFadden's is about 2.5 hours east of me. The steam pageant, in Canandaigua, is about an hour west. I enjoy going, but find I'm limited to time on my feet anymore. If I'm going to really enjoy the whole grounds, I'm going to have to be one of those old timers scooting around in a golf cart.

Yup quite the machine . Go deaf while you run it and don't let the RPMs drop off or it is done for. I would have to see how D-8or 9 would work next to it over a days time. The Old D-9 would not lose power like those deriots would under a hard push.

The Historical Construction Equipment Show comes back to Canandaigua Pageant of Steam in 2024.

I can atest to that i run a '66 d8h and it will lose traction long before that engine starts to drag.

I believe the Zagray Farm in Colchester CT has one but I am not sure it is that exact model. If I remember it does have twin 6-71s.

We had a number of trucks with Detroit diesels and a loader with a 671. I hope that operator had ear plugs.

Back in 1979 or 80 I was working as a mechanic up in Silver Bay Mn on the Reserve Mining Co Milepost 7 job. we had all 3 of the big ones Cat D9 G, Allis HD 41, and the Terex 82-50. They were all big and impressive when the largest dozer I had worked on till then was a D8 H. glad I'm not working on them anymore would take all day to climb up on one. It was sure fun at the time.

Albany Pioneer days has a permanent exhibit of an HD41. Pretty serious, but not in the same class as the one linked to. Jim

As a kid, I remember seeing the big Eucs being used up on Snoqualmie Pass to widen and improve the highway through the Cascade Mountains. Sometimes Dad would stop and let me watch, and listen to the screaming Jimmies(It gave him a chance to reminisce, he had run Cats building Coulee Dam.)
