930 and 730 Case

For a day or so in November of 76 we had both a 930 and 730 Case. I had driven the new to us 930 home from the dealer's the day before and now we were going to drive the old 730 in to the lot as we'd traded it on the 930.

Which is which? The rear tires on the right one where you're sitting on the front tire, are bigger, so maybe that is the 930. The one on the left is taller with more ground clearance. Hmmm.

Maybe just an illusion? The 730 is tired up pretty big for the size of the tractor. But I guess that's common for the 'standard', or 'wheatland' model?

Should have just kept the 730. Biggest regrets I have about tractors, have been around some I traded off at the time because I thought I needed to to be able to buy the next tractor. Dont get me wrong, some I was happy to unload, but I now know I should have never sold my 430 and 530 Case tractors. They didnt really bring all that much money, and within a few weeks I realized my mistake.

Very nice. I just won a 1030 on an online auction last night. Won, that is the word I used when I told my wife the good news.

Its an illusion. 18.4x30 tires on 730s were standard equipment here and I can't recall seeing any bigger or smaller. It was a fairly good match for the hp and loads pulled.
930 has 18.4x34s which I always considered less than adequate for heavy pulling in the field. If I'd kept the 930 or had one today I'd seriously look at sizing up to 18.4x38s like my 2090 has.
And Bruce, maybe I should have kept that 730 but 25 years later I got my uncle's 730 Case which is identical to the one in the photo so it worked out ok.

Even though the trade may not have brought much money sometimes that money has greater value than being tied up in equipment. Then there is the issue of not having enough shed space so something winds up outside where it deteriorates.

Its true one of the tractors would have had to sit outside as we had limited shed space. A couple of years later we got the 40x70 steel quonset which seemed huge at the time. Not its full and a newer straight wall as well is also too small.
