How do I replace or clean the suction hydraulic filter in a 1958

You take the lift off and the pump out. Why do you need to do that? It is a wire strainer that just needs a wash. If you have a major influx of dirt or gunge, then , yes, you do need to do it but usually a rinse round with paraffin, not diesel, will do the job.

Yes there was a lot of papery like junk under the suction canister I tried to get it all out but I would like get it all out If I pull the side cover off and pull the pump out is their a o ring between the pump and the suction canister thanks for your help
