Right from the time of the first Fordson tractor, they have been used as a base for many conversions, from crawlers to dump trucks, from 4WD to cranes. This is a Sanderson rough terrain fork lift based on both the Ford 3000 and a larger version on the 4000. They were the most popular fork lift used on farms in the 1970's, I sold a number of them. Later versions used a County 4000-4 as a base.
The company suffered a major strike in 1973-74 which stopped production an this went on for at least 12 months during which time, we had to sneak forklifts out of the factory as our lorries were blocked on the picket line from entering. The company folded and was taken over by JCB who incorporated Sanderson ideas into their own brand of farm and industrial loaders.
