I bet there's a real story here.......... They had to be popular during the early years of the war, when all fuel went to England's defense. Period magazines, before we entered the war, and still had access to Europe, like Time, Life and Look were full of these. I've one issue that I'll bet a quarter of it is dedicated to the wood burning trucks and cars that burned wood in Holland. Very interesting. Larry
 
We did not have too many here during WW2, Larry, most of them were in Germany at the later part of the war when we had destroyed the oil refineries. I have seen them in Holland but this one is in an Australian Museum. We did have coal gas powered vehicles during WW1, which had a large gas bag on the roof of a normal, but modified car or truck.
