The Ivel tractor from 1903. One of the first British tractors built by a man called Dan Albone, a
bicycle racer and manufacturer from Bedfordshire. Ivel is the name of a Bedfordshire river. The
tractor became very popular and a number were exported. Dan demonstrated the tractor at a number
of working days around the county. One of his demonstrations involved cutting a field of wheat
with a binder, carting to a threshing drum, the tractor then drove the drum and the grain was then
ground to flour using the tractor to drive the mill. The tractor was then hitched to a plough and
the field of wheat stubble ploughed. The flour was made into bread and, at the end of the day, the
onlookers were served bread, made from the wheat that they had seen harvesting in the morning.

Unfortunately Dan dies at the age of 46 and his business slowly died with him, around 1918.
