keeping a diary

I wish I had written a few things down through the years. Abut the only thing I write down is oil changes. My Dad kept a diary for a lot of years. Just a few notes some days, other days a lot more, but every day. By reading his diary's it brings back some things I forgot. I can tell what happened on, the farm the four years I was in the Navy. I've written a daily journal steadily since 1967 and its a great source of family history and other boring little details that occasionally come up. My mother wrote in hers from 1957 til 2002. Her cousin kept a very detailed journal of his life on the farm and after 1930 to 1975. I have all those and find them interesting to read.

A personal health diary is a good idea, if you have various health issues spread over longer term.
Not necessarily daily entry but when required, You may not want someone reading your story later but once your gone it does not matter.

I keep track of temperature using weather service stats and how much it rains at my place. Write down big things that happen in my small world some times.

I started a diary Jan. 1999 to record my life at the end of the 20th Century. I was experiencing a lot of stress and change so much of what I recorded was whining about my life. Little did I know that in 5 years I'd really have something to whine about. At the end of the year I put in the bottom drawer of my desk. About 15 or so years later after the death of my wife I got it out while doing some clearing out. I read a few pages and tossed it in the trash bag.

Yes, I sure wish I had kept a journal of all the places that I have been. I drove a feed truck for a large family business for almost 19 years. I drove in 7 northeast states. They went bankrupt once the 3rd generation got ahold of the company. All the records are now gone. I figured that I probably traveled over 2 million plus miles safely. But I have no way to prove it. Everything is just a blur now that I try to remember all the places and miles.
