beaver! first two of the season started setting traps yesterday, got 2 this morning one was 54 lb, the other 47 lb. they dam up our drainage ditches and eat corn and soybeans .

Glad to see you're thinning them out, Glennster! Was watching a video of another trapper doing similar work recently (same guy I'd linked elsewhere setting coyote traps) and I was amazed at how much damage the beaver had done to the corn fields next to where he was trapping.
 
Those are big beavers, destructive rodents! We haven't had many problems with them lately, it's been too dry, and the county has a trapper under contract to remove them.
 
i lost about 4 acres out of one field, 235 bu corn the loss adds up pretty quick. we are trapping 5 different locations currently, and a couple neighbors want us to trap their fields too.
 
that one is in grundy. most of our trapping is in livingston. we do trap one field up in kendall near plattvile and one location near minooka.
 
Glennster, what kind of price are beaver pelts bringing nowadays? Kind of curious as to what you have to do to get them ready to go. Thanks
 
check out you tube for pelt preparation. average pelt can bring 35 dollars. the castor glands bring 65 dollars a pound. there are fur buyers that take the whole animal, but it must be frozen as soon as it is collected.
 
i get my trapping supplies from f and t trading post in alpena mi. we use various sets and traps, 330 connibear, snare, longspring and coil
spring traps. for any trap other than connibear, we use drowning sets. we also use castor lure on castor mound sets. lots of utube videos on
trapping beaver.
