What is this? Sabotoge?

I don't undestand it!
You might not believe it

but I found this blocking the oil hole feeding the rear camshaft bushing on a Case VAC.
I don't see anyway it could have gotten in there without the head being off.

What is it? Were there Case labor troubles in '47? A disgruntled dealer doing repairs?

To see the damage to the camshaft look here https://forums.yesterdaystractors.com/viewtopic.php?t=1642153&start=15

Looks like it was in there since the tractor was new. They tumbled the castings in tubs full of those to knock out
the casting sand. It just didn't get cleaned out good enough.

Mysteries of life. We bought a new Chevy C65 milk truck in 73 and the two speed rear end wouldn't
shift in to high. We took it back to the dealer. They took the cover off the switch and somebody had
dropped three screws down inside it so it wouldn't move.

Looks like to me a media in star used in descaling castings ( removes sand cores , flashing castings) , use in large vibratory burnishing
machines at the foundries.
Not sabotage
Media come in ceramics, stainless steel, and steel for example.

Look at Roto Finiish in Kalamazoo,Michigan for example

I found one of those in the cast center of a 44 Farmall H I had purchased in 2018. At first I thought it was a bad outer axle bearing until I took the wheel off and found that piece rolling around.

It might have gotten wedged in a corner of the block and fallen out during use. It is more surprising that it was not found and removed during an overhaul. Was the engine never opened before?

I don't know if it was ever opened before . The cylinders are 3.25 with little ridge at the top. For the last 30 years it was used on about 2 acres as the owner moved from the farm but could never stop farming. I've used it to mow about 10 acres a few times with a sicle mower and in parades
