This past weekend I attended an an antique tractor auction as I have been doing for the past 30+ years and saw something odd, at least it appeared that way. Always standing at the edge of the crowd was a uniformed police officer that was obviously watching the crowd and on duty. Now I have been to large auctions where police were present at the exits and checking the people leaving with items against their bill of sale receipts, that I consider normal.

This past weekend high a school football payoff game had to change venue due to treats of violence, that is not normal for my area.

Am I (we) to believe this is the new normal?

I can remember two where law enforcement was involved. At one them, the State Police showed up, cuffed
the owner of the place and took him away. Some folks around here might remember that one. He was over
about half way between me and JWondergem. They hauled that guy up on so many charges that he did
several years, from fraud to conspiracy.

Another one, the Sheriff's car was in the driveway. It was a forced sale and there was a rumor in the
crowd that he had threatened to stop the sale by whatever means necessary. When the auctioneer started
the sale, he just said George is in the house. He has some papers to sign with the Sheriff, ''but if
you buy something, I advise you to get it out of here right now, as fast as you can''.

So long as he is not prevented from responding to an emergency why not hang out at a tractor auction?

It could be a Federal requirement. Concert venue close to me has to have a certain number of LEOs on premises.
Number of people in attendance dictates staffing.

Having been in the business...I have stopped at various events in the County that interested me, and were going on when I was on duty, some were tractor shows, many weren't. made my day because it menat people
were behaving so I had time to take in sights and do some PR. But, many municipalities now have clauses about Security , traffic control, and EMS at approved events.
