Can anyone tell me what size engine this is in a Dodge D600 farm truck with a 5/2 manual transmission? Thanks for your help.

With the distributor on the front of the engine it could be a big block engine: 361 to 440 family. Most likely a 361 in an early truck. What year is the truck?

Check the VIN number or read the engine number stamped into a boss on the top front of the block between the valley cover and the water pump. A lot can be changed over 45 to 60 years.

Its definitely a big block engine of the B- RB family. What year is the truck? Could be anything from 361 ci. to 440 ci. Depending on what year the truck is. Its been a few years here, Im trying to remember. I am pretty sure the block is stamped with the numbers that denote the cubic inches in the front up near the distributor or somewhere close by. Look around a bit you will find it.

The truck is a 1974
318-3 was standard
361-3 was optional
With tandems, I would think it has the 361-3

Front mount distributor means b or rb block as others have said. 361 thru 440. Should be a machined flat where distributor enters block, numbers stamped on flat identify engine. b36 - 361 b38 - 383 ect.

Oh that is one of them odd ball 361's with the 318-360 . style heads , They used then in School busses . back in the 70's . The one local school district use to come to me for parts even though i was a Chrysler Plymouth dealership , I had the district parts depot send me the truck books for two reasons , one we sat like 5-6 miles North of the Ohio Turn pike and the local towing company's kept dragging Dodge motor home Chassis into us then the locals school started coming for there Dodge bus chassis as they were a mile up the road. First time i ordered in heads for one i ordered in the wrong set as i ordered in the ones for a reg truck , hey id did not know .

No it's a weird 361 as they used a 318-360 style head . Thirty years ago i could remember the part numbers . Local school had Dodge Chassis under there busses , back then i ran a Chrysler Plymouth parts dept and due to customer demand i started stocking Dodge truck parts . This was back in 1970 thru 74 . The reg 361 truck motor had standard looking big block heads this Freak had small block looking heads.

Anyone know how to decode the VIN?

Actually a pretty nice truck. Makes me think I might make a little on my 1972 F700 that I should be seeling soon.

Thats a sweet sharp looking truck with no rust on it. The dummy tandem would be the deal killer for me. live tandem only. With the wet falls we have every year it seems a dummy tandem spends more time stuck than moving. Even a single with a lift is better for getting around with. I'd love that except for that.

Where is it posted that this is a dead tandem, or not a lift tag?? I don't see that posted here by anyone.

(quoted from post at 12:56:31 10/25/23) Click on my link to the truck - you can see the spring set up in one of the pictures.
o springs tell you that is a dummy/dead tandem? How?

If you look at the rear axle you see oil caps not flanges to drive the wheels. And if you look at the spring suspension brackets on the frame you see the ends of the spring for the axle on each side so I would doubt it is a lift axle and definitely not a live tandem. So it is the deal breaker for me. With juice brakes, there is no air to lift a lift axle, unless it has an under hood air compressor. Which you do not see in any of the engine under hood pictures. Now we are down to a hydraulic or self contained unit to lift the axle and you don't see anything like that in the picture of up under the back of the box frame where you can see the ball hitch on it. IF there was much of any lift system you might be able to see lines or something there. So my money would be on a dummy tandem This is the best I can discern of that from what I observe of the pictures and would welcome a better proof of what it is.

361.
