Grass identification

Trying to identify this grass I think its tall fescue. Is tall fescue the grass that grows in clump and makes a field so rough that a truck will vibrate apart as you drive over it? Gets about 3 foot tall and is very drought tolerant. In Colorado. I regret ever planting it and dont remember what I planted. Field just keeps getting rougher.

Most fescue is not very drought tolerant here in the Southeast.
And it does not stay in clumps.
It will fill in over time.

Here in western Colorado we have a tall wheatgrass that grows like that.'Tall Jose' wheatgrass grows tall and rank.Clumps like that too. Not very good feed at full maturity. It does, however, grow in the more alkaline areas that other grasses will not.

There are several tussock forming grasses they are not reasonable for a field. The grass tussocks are great for retaining runoff and work well in semi wet areas in parks and reclaimed land.
I would probably kill it with herbicide plow, or deep disc it and drag it flat. The clumps will be painful to eliminate due to the root structure. Jim

It doesn't look like the tall fescue I know. For orchard middles, I use Kentucky 31 tall fescue. If seeded carefully, at the proper rate and with a turf seeder we get a nice dense, tight turf which is like a thick carpet and very drought-resistant. I would not tolerate the looks of that in my orchard. Maybe start over would be my recommendation.

It's not Tall Fescue, Tall Fescue has wide course blades and lays more flat.
There are many other fescue's that have bunch type growth habits, and spread very slowly. That area will never be smooth unless maybe planting more grass to fill in the voids.
No sure where you are located so I can't make any recommendations.
