disk blades

I am a part time rancher. I need to replace the disk blades on my disk. I am looking for recommendations, on where to buy from. Thanks

Well my experience has been cheap blades don't last long,i have always had IHC Disks, and there blades last the longest by far! And another thing cheap blades break, i wouldn't buy nothing but earth metal blades for a IHC, and John Deere for there disks, i rented a Taylor Way disk years ago they had some tough blades on then too!!!!

I agree no cheap blades. Dad bought some farm and home blades, after two years they were smaller than the ones we took off and they had to be 10 years old.

I will agree with the others, Im a cheapskate but if you are going to the bother and expense to replace disk Blades do it right the first time, get good blades. IHC, well Case now, do have that earth metal name and they are really good.

It probably would help us to know tho, what kind of disk are you working on? Old nearly horse drawn model, or big heavy newer disk, sort of old finishing disk, name n
Brand disk or cheapie farm store light weight 3 point disk..... it makes a difference what I would use depending on what you are working on.

Blades are a crap shoot anymore. For the nuts and such clean them up as best you can. with a wire brush and then with a file clean up any scars on the threads. this will make removal much easier and assembly much better with some grease on the threads going on and an impact wrench you can tighten them sufficiently. Though you want a 1 inch impact not your little 1/2 inch one. You can use that to start but the big one to finish the job. No wrestling match with pipe wrenches to get them loose and then tight again. We changed the ones on our Sunflower disc last spring. That one inch impact was the cats meow for that when it quit turning we would hit the back end of the shaft with the sledge and it would go some more. Never did any come loose since either. Biggest problem was getting the holders for the bearing to fame aligned.

Shoupparts.com has disc blades. Got some 18 inch from them last week. Local dealers don't seem to stock the smaller sizes. Have used Shoup 22 inch on the bigger disc with good wear also.

AgriSupply carries a good line of disk blades and other tillage parts. They are located in VA, NC, and SC and they can ship. They work well for me, but I don't do heavy use.

Agri supply and Shoup to name two...both ship. Expect high shipping rates. For a big, heavy order, they ship motor freight and destination is either a nearby freight terminal or at your driveway if you have the means to unload a skid (pallet). BTDT

Stroup! If your order is over $100, free shipping. That's 3 disk blades. Google is your friend for all replacement parts.

I would go with Agrisupply myself. When I was thinking about rebuilding some a few years ago for the Amish best price and actually had the sizes I wanted, Shoup did not and what they had were priced so high it was not worth repairing the old disks. Now the new heavy disks might be different but for them I figured you were going to be doing over 500 acres a year not a hundrerd acres. The amount to be done with the older smaller disks you would never wear out the cheaper blades.

That's good to know as I am seriously thinking about installing new axles and 18 cuppped (scalloped) discs on my front gangs and shipping was considered to be a bummer. I get Shoup catalogs annually and never picked up on the free shipping thing.

One reason I would have goon with Agrisupply over Shoup s Shoup did not carry yje size blades I would have needed and Agrisyppky did and as of right noe Agrisupplu price for what I would have needed is $18.99 So even with shipping if Shoup carried the size the shipping would be taking6 blades and not 3, If you are going for blades for a hundred horsepower pluss tractor then Shoup might be as good but they were not carring the blades for a 30-40 year old disk and that is more the style I think the orignal poster is needing. Not for the very large disks for the 100+ Hp tractors but I think in the range for up to about a 50 HP tractor max. Different companys have different markets ans Shooup does not want the market for the older machines. Same thing with combine parts.

I already shopped Shoup and found the 18, notched, 3.5 mm, 1 1/8 square shaft that fit my 1960's vintage IH disc. that I pull with my 65 hp tractor.
