finally got going on the canola today with my 50 year old 1400 new holland combine. appears to be running around 40 bu. per acre.its really dry testing at 7.4 moisture. more greens than i want but not going to wait anymore. pretty
slow going in low gear like 2 1/2 m.p.h. its doing a good job so i have the time to get the black gold off.

Looking good in the old NH. I'd be smiling if I could get up to 2 and a half miles per hour. Most of the time I'm below it.This must be some of the toughest canola straw I've ever dealt with. Plugged the cylinder so bad on the 7721 pull type today that I went home and got the old IH 1660 out and ran it for the first time in almost 3 years. It only leaks a bit of oil now and seems to handle the lumpy swaths as well if not better than the JD. And so nice to drive a self propelled again.

So I have to ask, why did it become canola instead of what the plant is? Because of the R word? I have planted some in the past. I didn't ask for canola seed.

Nice to see the old NH combine. There was a dealership near us that sold a pile of combines 40-50 years ago and they were common to see in the fields. I havent seen one now in a few years. The local NH dealership doesnt seem to be in the combine business. If there is a yellow combine in a field now, it more likely to be a Cat .

I like that your dog is photo bombing that last photo. Does your dog follow along catching all of the critters as they jump out of the way of your machinery!!

here is a little info,... i make sure the pickup slip clutch stops turning when it hits a green wade . no matter how easy u try and ease
into it, it grabs it and stops the pickup. i just hate the thought of unplugging the cylinder one straw at a time. i am quite impressed with
this 300 ford 6 cylinder running it. handles the combine pretty good. my massey 850 got a rest this year , just bought this one this fall on
the neighbor's auction . not used for 20 years or so. it was to be my backup , but wanted to try it out as it has way longer cleaning
sieves than the massey. but it sure likes its gas. used darn near 4 barrels of gas to combine 85 acres of wheat, which is darn near 1k for
fuel. the 354 massey perkins is a fuel sipper compared to this one.

Thanks for sharing your pictures and stories.
We have that auger spout on our 95 JD so we can reach the ten wheeler.

Heavy to get swung around though!

Keep up the good work.

Wow, that 300 Ford has to be working hard to run that machine. I had a 1500 NH and it had the 3208 vat in it. That was a good engine in that machine.

ya a couple here think they are called LEXUS. when i was young i used to call these yellow ones no name combines after the no name store cause their stuff was yellow, lol. yellow bags , yellow sign. now i got one geez.

these had the optional ford diesel just forget the size , but this engine handles it really good other than the fuel. runs cool too.

she is a great dog 2 years old now and where i am she is. most time if i say stay home she stays and watches the yard. more so in the spring or summer she runs along the tractor then gets tired and goes home.

Back in the 1980s I harvested with a 510 Massey with the 350 GM V8. Plenty of power there and I figured it used about 4 1/2 gallons per hour of gas. This IH 1660 has the DT466 diesel which has a lot more capacity than the Massey 510.
It worked well today but the lumpy swaths make it sound like men with hammers beating on the inside of the concaves. Canola straw hard as wood yet when it comes out the back of the combine it is just dust.

Yes Melroe built that rubber one first and sold that to John Deere, then they made the one with the fan belt and sheets of Aluminum, kept that one for them selves!
