Case 560 backhoe 1969

I've been wanting a backhoe to do some chores around my property. A 1969 Case 560 popped up on FB about 1.5 hours away. Original post said it had a leaky hydraulic line but it ran a couple of years ago. Bring gasoline, battery and hydraulic fluid and you could drive it up on the trailer. I've been back and forth about and now it apparently won't start. He suspects bad coil. I think I can get this machine for under 1000 but he has a firm offer for a few hundred dollars less from a person that will take it, no questions asked. He's doesn't live where the tractor is but I can go see it and try and start it. Can I somehow get around a bad coil for starting purposes. Any ideas what this tractor is worth if its got decent tires and all major systems are in fair shape? Thanks!

You get around a bad coil, with a good coil.

Bring some 12ga hookup wire with you to run a power wire from the battery to the coil, bypassing the ignition switch.

Before you do anything else remove the distributor cap and clean the points. Most likely that's all it needs to get spark. If that doesn't help, then move on to the coil.

Go see it. If it cranks with uniform cranking speed (not 1-3-Fast-2) buy it and crank it onto the trailer with a come along. Jim

See if it will crank. Then if you really want it buyit and haul home. IF you get it running on the spot the price will go up on it right then and there. Trust me on this one. If you don't then just walk away.

Thank you all for your reply. I went to look at this tractor yesterday. Drive1.5 hour trip with charged battery, hydraulic fluid, gas and tools. As you've probably guessed, it was sold. I notified them I was coming. I notified again right before I left. Arrived to learn it was hauled out about 3 hours before I got there. New owner paid $400!!! The son of the owner who listed it said his mom sold it in the morning and he didn't tell her I was coming. Frustrated!
