Char-Lynn Hi-Lo-Pac hydraulic pump

For some reason I have it in my head that you can attach one of these to a 1000 RPM PTO to get higher output.

I ended up with THREE of these things... none complete. The one I sold several years ago made its way back to me, then picked up one at an auction for $5, and finally happened across a third at the local engine show and flea market.

The plan is to make the three into one or two good ones, and then belt drive one of them with a 5HP electric motor I have laying around. Building a stationary hydraulic pump to maybe run the fence post splitter.

Anybody know if the 1000RPM thing is real?

I kinda doubt it, you got the one that they put on a pto,to provide hyd for the older tractor that didn't have a Hydraulic system, i would say no, because when they came with 1,000 rpm, every company had a Hyd system at the point !

I have several of them, as well, I had an IH ''B'' years ago that had one installed (chain driven from the belt pulley shaft), and that's my only experience with one in operation, and it worked well with quick couplers to use with mowers and rakes.

They are a simple gear pump, I don't see why one couldn't be driven faster IF the internal relief valve can handle the extra flow and the pump doesn't cavitate from lack of intake flow (although I wouldn't expect it to, as it is submerged oil in the reservoir).

Ah yes it's coming back to me now. You could chain drive them and get more output by running them faster.

wore out, I'd be interested in knowing the sprocket to sprocket ratio on that B if you know it. The belt pulley drive spins much faster than the PTO on those.

I did some calculations and it looks pretty easy to get enough reduction using pulleys to get it into the 700-800RPM range without getting stupid big with the driven pulley.

I do not know the sprocket ratio, my late Uncle installed the unit probably in the mid-50's-1960 era and the tractor was sold in the 80's.

Do you have a Hi-Lo pack manual, I have one downloaded somewhere and can't remember for sure if any installations other than on the PTO shaft are shown. I will have to take a look later, on the shop computer, where I think it is. Shouldn't be hard to find one to download, either, although I often find that stuff that was easy to find and download a few years ago doesn't seem to exist anymore.
