Got the Cub going

Youngest son Cameron recently bought himself a Farmall Cub. It was mostly in good mechanical condition when he got it, but it needed a little TLC to make it a nice operable unit. After changing to 12v system since the 6v system had quit, oil pan gasket replaced, headlights working, a good servicing front to rear, and a few missing pieces here and there, it is now in operation. I'm so glad the major gas pipeline does not run near the farm, do both boys would keep it drained dry from running they're tractors. We may have to go in and reseal a transmission oil leak as it seems to be wetting a brake band with gear oil. He's already received the parts to change out the brakes. This will probably be a winter job. He had a bog type disk come with the package deal and the tractor is not phased a bit with it. Will a Cub lift a 4 ft fast hitch tandem type disk ? I know it would pull one. We do not have one to try but it's on his want list if it would work.

It is doubtful it can lift a disk. Try it and report back.

Can you change the angle of the disk blades so they are not cutting in? Then drive drive the disk on the grass.

That is great cr.
They will pick up more than you think they will, but you might need some front wheel weights.
Put a bunch of weight on that disc and see how it picks it up.

Richard it will pick up that bog disk with 3 grown men standing on it very well. The tractor was cold when we tried it though. What concerns me is on the 100 - 140's back when they were the main workhorses here, they used to have to add a helper arm on the lift arm rockshaft to help pick them up once the hydraulic fluid got hot by the end of the day. I wish I had access to a 140 disk to try but I don't. Hate to buy or make him something and it be for naught. I'm not worried about being able to pull it. It's the lifting that has me wondering.

Yeah his older brother has had him cutting up where his watermelon patches were at this year while he was tending to his soybeans ahead of this tropical storm. It took a bit of doing to get him to head home and call it a day ! Been a fair amount of ground cutting and road drag maintenance transpired lately.

Cameron has a very serious look on his face, and I am guessing he is thinking about all the possible uses he will find for his Cub. After talking with some young people around his age recently It is my opinion that what he does and learns on the farm will be one of the most rewarding things that will benefit him far into his future.

Don't forget that the final drives have their own oil and may not have been checked/changed for a LONG time.
