Got this rock chip on the hood of my pickup.
Paint is chipping off. About the size of a dime.
How to fix it?
It is a Chevy not a Porsche so I don't mind if it shows a little when up close.
Salt and snow country here so if I don't do something soon it will be a hole clean through.

Since it's rusted, you need to take it down to the metal at least 3 in diameter. Then prime and paint it. It appears to be olympic white, you may be able to just spot spray it and buff it out. If the color doesn't match you may have to sand the entire hood with 600 grit paper and paint the entire hood. If you want to do better you might use an epoxy primer on the spot. Rust tends to have deep roots and is likely to come back. Epoxy primer will kill the rust. The problem with rust is when you get a spot damaged to the metal it will bleed outwards from the spot underneath the paint. With an epoxy primer the rust will be isolated to the nick.

Go to ace hardware and get what's called Rust Stop. Then just wire brush the loose rust off and put that on. When that drugs paint it and it will never rust again

I agree with Mr. Newell with one change. I'd sand also, then use some Ospho to really kill the rust prior to epoxy. If it is clear coated scuff the entire hood, apply the color coat to the repair and clear the entire hood.

No clear coat, just do the sanded area + a little then sand with 1000/1500 and buff.

If I were you I would use my dremel to clean up the rust, then use any one of the phosphoric acid rust converters to deal with the residual rust, then give it 2-3 coats of primer with a paint brush, then sand a little with 600 grit with a small block to remove the primer that is on top of the white paint. finally I would spray the touch-up paint after masking the small area that is scratched.
