I have a john deere 301a diesel motor was completely rebuilt 2 yrs age probably under 40 hours started smoking blue smoke . Can it be dirty air filters or should I do something else? Thank you in advance

How was the engine broken in after the rebuild? 40 hours over 2 years, after a complete rebuild, makes me suspect it may have glazed the cylinders from not getting the rings properly seated in, and really working some after the rebuild.

One thing is don't idle around with it a lot while moving the round bales open the throttle some. Doesn't need to be wide open but maybe a quarter or so. Over a 1000 RPM diesels don't like idling around it is hard on the cylinders letting fuel by the rings washing the lubrication out. I have a similar problem with my dad and his 574 he idles all over with it driving to the field and it has a blue haze all the time. IF used with more throttle it goes away. makes more heat in the cylinders.

Engine coolent temperture, get-up and keep-up around 180 - 200 degrees. No idling.. Work it hard when running.. Need to seat the piston rings????

There is your mistake. Those rings can glaze, and never seal in it is not worked. They need to work.Seating rings takes heat and pressure. Just dont lug it or overheat. Put it on a plow. dont pull the guts out, just a solid load. Vary the throttle from time to time. A dealer will take a new tractor and pull it hard on a dyno. You can do the same just by working it in the field. Idleing, poopin' around is the worst way to break in an engine, and also hard on a well broken engine as well.
