Trailer Floor (old post)

A couple of years ago, there was a quesion posted about using compsoie flooring, Trex, on a small lawnmower trailer. Icant find the post now and I suspect it was deleted due to arguing and bickering. I was wondering if that gentleman is still here, and how things worked out. Thank you. (Please keep it civil, and your opinions about it to yourself. And no I dont have a Menards near me.)

I was just working with some of that material a few days ago and while it seems like a great product I think it would be quite heavy on a trailer deck and quite possibly slippery. The thing I remember about working with it was that it weighed quite a bit more than traditional wood. We have a deck made out of it on our ranch house and it s not too slippery when wet, but probably would be if I was loading equipment on a similar surface

I used Trex for a manure spreader floor. I'm happy I did and wouldn't hesitate to use it on a small utility trailer deck, but I wouldn't use it on a larger float/trailer meant to handle heavier or point loads: it 'ladders' or bows between the cross supports under a heavy load if they're too far apart - especially in hot weather. You don't want to span any more than 16 between centres. The manure spreader had support bars every 22 and I had to go back and add a bunch of extra cross-supports because it was bowing between them.

Not sure I'd worry about it being slippery: It's meant to be used as outdoor decking - it wouldn't work for that if it was a slip hazard (Assuming you use the textured floor/decking stuff, and not the smooth railing/fence profiles).

I did that first with the exact same results, that how I knew the post I was looking for is gone, or missing. I rememeber some of the experts jumpimng on him
for asking, so I figure the post was deleted.

These are decking pieces, and the person I got them from ordered too many and didnt want to send them back. Most would ever be on it is one of my lawn mowers, and not more than a day at a time, at the most.

Thank you! Something I have not thought about, but I dont think it will be too big of a deal, but I will most definately look into that.

John, I used it years ago on a home made wood hauling trailer.
It was taken off a deck.
Supports are 2 feet apart.
Still holding up well.

Thanks Richard. I think what Im wanting to do will work fine, if not Im not out much money on it. At the rate Ill be using it ,I might just fix the floor and sell it. It hasnt been moved but once this year. I figure I did pretty good on the old floor boards, 13 years and only one is rotted completely out, the others are still decent, but I might as well change them all.
